CT after bike accident shows large aortic aneurysm. Monday, April 20: Dr. Duke confirms need for surgery to repair aneurysm. New valve also needed because of aneurysm location. Friday, May 15: Surgery replaces St. Jude mechanical valve with a bovine valve. A Dacron fabric tube replaces the portion of the artery damaged by the aneurysm. Friday, May 15: ICU Recovery Monday, May 18: Recovery in the ‘cardiac wing’ of Sacred Heart hospital. Sunday, May 24: Home for some much needed R&R. Wednesday, July 8: Dad becomes a blood-thinner free man. Bye- Bye Coumadin! Sunday, August 2: Dad participates in his first post-surgery Triathlon race. He has fun and earns 2nd place in his age group. Hooray!!! |
